A magical Christmas getaway in the Alpbach Valley

December at our family-friendly health and wellbeing hotel is defined by festive traditions, and we can’t wait to share them with you! Enjoy a warm welcome at an Advent reception with home-made biscuits and punch. Our very special Tyrolean Alpine Christmas programme begins on 22 December with a contemplative torchlight walk with Tyrolean Christmas stories. This is followed on the evening of 23 December by a visit from the traditional shepherd door-to-door buskers. Each year, the singers from the Reither choir embark on a journey in search of refuge for Mary and Joseph. This custom signifies the coming of the Lord and has been a popular tradition in Reith in the Alpbach Valley for many years.

Christmas holidays at the Pirchner Hof

Late in the afternoon of 24 December, we invite you to enjoy home-made biscuits and punch around our large Christmas tree to prepare for the exquisite feast with festive carols and Christmas readings. Feel free to place your presents under the tree! At such a special time of year, we want you to feel completely at home here at the Pirchner Hof – just without all the pre-Christmas chaos! Our excellent Hildegard of Bingen cuisine offers exquisite dishes made mainly with locally-sourced, organic foods or produce from our own farm. So, enjoy an enchanting and guilt-free feast! After the exquisite Christmas Eve dinner, you are very welcome to attend midnight Mass. It takes place at 10.30pm in Reith’s parish church. The service is festive and traditional, and includes plenty of singing and music.

On Christmas Day itself, you can expect more wonderful musical entertainment at the Pirchner Hof, this time in the form of zither music, accompanied by an exceptionally festive gala dinner made from our excellent wholesome cuisine. We look forward to taking care of your every need on your Christmas holiday here at the Pirchner Hof!

Experience Advent in Rattenberg on your Christmas holiday

Not far from the Pirchner Hof, Medieval Rattenberg is Austria’s smallest town and celebrates Advent in a very special way. You won’t find Christmas market stalls in this magical town! Instead, visitors are enchanted by candlelight, fires, special wine and most of all, ‘the gift of time’. Pay the town a visit and see first-hand the candles in the windows, torches and open fires bathing the picturesque façades on the medieval houses in warm, primordial light – you’ll be unable to resist an irrepressible feeling of wellbeing and contentment. Especially at the ‘reverse Advent wreath’ and at the square of a thousand lights. Here young and old come together to listen to contemplative music and festive readings. All of the town's businesses are open, including shops selling the town’s famous handcrafted glass. Local musicians and artists gather by the tall community Christmas tree to enchant visitors with festive Tyrolean tunes. Our tip: try the elder-flavoured Advent wine served in an original Rattenberg Advent glass!

Use the power of Rauhnächte

Our ancestors believed that the period between midnight on 24 December and midnight on 5 January was a sacred time. Here at the Pirchner Hof, we too like to harness the power of the mysterious Rauhnächte from Christmas to Epiphany. We invite you to join us in maintaining traditional rituals to banish evil spirits, protect people and animals from harm, activate positive energies, honour ancestors and cure illnesses. We also ask for protection and security for the new year and recharge our energies with torchlight walks and smoke cleansing. Smoke cleansing is particularly effective in helping us to step away from our everyday lives so that we can concentrate on ourselves and focus on what is really important. Tip: for spiritual cleansing, our expert Maria Schellhorn recommends mugwort, juniper, sage, Angelica root and frankincense. For harmony and protection, she mixes rosemary, verbena, lavender and pine resin. Find inspiration at our dedicated Hildegard of Bingen hotel. We look forward to welcoming you!
