Hildegard von Bingen was born in 1098 and entered a Benedictine monastery at the tender age of eight. Throughout her life she was deeply concerned with religion, medicine, ethics and cosmology. She also made a name for herself as a composer and was known for her wise counsel. The books she authored detail her extensive nutritional and health teachings, as well as her comprehensive knowledge of herbs and medicinal plants. She was canonised in 2012. The teachings of Hildegard von Bingen are holistic and can be summed up in six simple principles. They cover all areas of life, enhance health, and are easy and enjoyable to apply. This is why she is of so much interest to us – and remarkably contemporary too!
